South Iceland Chamber Choir: Successful tribute to Sir John Tavener

The South Iceland Chamber Choir premiered the "Three Shakespeare Sonnets" by Sir John Tavener at a sold out concert at Southwark Cathedral on 15 November.

The choir also performed new works British composer Jack White and Icelandic composers Bára Grímsdóttir, Örlygur Benediktsson, Snorri Hallgrímsson and ex- Sigur Rós member Kjartan Sveinsson.

Sadly, Sir John Tavener passed away only a few days before the concert and it is safe to conclude that the choir, whose collaboration with Tavener goes back a decade, gave a fitting tribute to this great British composer.

The choir's performance, conducted by choir master Hilmar Örn Agnarsson, has been well received and the Independent gave it four stars stating "By the end the singers were choked with emotion, and half the audience were in floods of tears. Which was entirely as it should be".
