Third General Assembly of the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in Japan
The 3rd, General Assembly of the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce in Japan was held January 29th, at the Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo. The Agenda for the meeting was in accordance with the Statutes of the Chamber.
In the Chairman’s report he focused primarily on main events that have taken place by the ICCJ over the last two years. Within the range of activities the Chamber has co-sponsored several events in cooperation with Icelandic institutions like the Trade Council of Iceland, Invest in Iceland Agency as well as events in close cooperation with the Embassy of Iceland in Japan. Of single events the largest project undertaken by the ICCJ was the collaboration with the Trade Council of Iceland in organizing a business seminar which 25 Icelandic enterprises and institutions attended and 150 Japanese firms participated in, on the occasion of the visit of then Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. David Oddsson in September 2005. In addition the Board of the ICCJ decided to support the reception commemorating the 50 years of formal diplomatic relations between Japan and Iceland, which was hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Mme Valgerður Sverrisdóttir, on December 7th. 2006.
Last year both the Chamber’s homepage; www.isccj.or.jp and its newsletter the Icebraker received face lifts.
At the meeting a new Board of Directors was elected. Mr. Hiroshi Kirk Suzuki was elected new Chairman, but Mr. Eyþór Eyjólfsson has now moved back to Iceland and declined to stand again for an official position within the Chamber. Mr. Árni Einarsson, Managing Director of Atlantis Co., Ltd., was elected as a new Board Director. Vice Chairman was elected Mr. Kanji Ohashi, CEO Grand Hyatt, Keijiro Dohi, President of Nishikawa Sangyo as Board Director, Benedikt Höskuldsson, Minister Counsellor as Secretary General, and Ambassador, Þórður Ægir Óskarsson serves as Honorary Chairman.
