Iceland's Foreign Minister welcomes Nobel Peace Prize to Dr R.K. Pachauri

"The decision is truly an encouragement to Iceland and other countries working on increasing the share of renewable in the energy consumption" said Gísladóttir in an interview with Morgunblaðið, Iceland’s largest daily newspaper.

Last September, Dr R.K. Pachauri visited Iceland and met again with the Foreign Minister at a climate meeting on the sidelines on UN´s General Assembly. Foreign Minister Gísladóttir added that the Nobel Committee’s decision that the efforts to combat climate change are also efforts to promote peace and security, and expressed her hope that the upcoming climate meetings in Bali and later in Copenhagen will produce binding results which reflect a broad commitment by the international community to counter the threat of global climate change in a responsible manner.
