Foreign Minister Gísladóttir addresses the UN General Assembly

She urged UN member countries to increase their efforts to counter global climate change, which she described as an integral part of attaining the Millenium development goals, together with the empowerment of women. Ms. Gísladottir informed the General Assembly that Iceland´s ODA assistance has doubled in the last four years and that it aims at being among top ODA contributors. Iceland is a first-time candidate for a rotating seat on the UN Security Council for the period 2009-2010, actively supported by the other Nordic states; Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
