Air d'Islande 2013 has begun

Icelandic culture festival Air d’Islande 2013 started in Paris on January 31st. The festival introduces the French to Icelandic music, movies and contemporary art. This year’s edition is Air d’Islande’s fifth, and takes place in Paris and Nantes.

Ghostigital and Epic Rain opened the festival with a fantastic concert at Point Ephémère in Paris yesterday. The music feast continues tonight, when Ólöf Arnalds and bass player Skúli Sverrison, give a concert at Point Ephémère, while Epic Rain plays at Le Stakhanov in Nantes. The festival’s music events are organised in cooperation with Iceland Airwaves.

A special feature at this year’s festival is ‘Journée de la femme islandaise’, an event dedicated to Icelandic women. Marie-Joelle Gros, journalist at the renowned French newspaper Liberation, and Nina Björk Jónsdóttir from the Icelandic Embassy in Paris discuss women’s position in the modern Icelandic society.

The film Sweet Viking, a poetic documentary about musician Jarþrúður Karlsdóttir, will be screened. Furthermore, Radio France Culture will air programmes about Iceland and the Icelanders during the festival.

Air d’Islande is held in cooperation with the Icelandic Embassy in Paris and Visit Iceland.
