Minister of Finance in China
The Icelandic Minister of Finance visited China from 18th to 23rd October of this year upon the invitation of the Minister of Finance of China. Among other activities during the trip, he participated in the West China International Fair, an annual event which this year had the theme investment and business in China’s Western regions. There, he gave an opening address at a seminar hosted by Icelandic companies. Furthermore, the Minister had meetings with Government representatives in Sichan and Beijing.
Over three thousand companies from 44 countries and 31 Chinese provinces presented their products and services. It is estimated that altogether 700.000 visitors came to the fair and a related trade show. The Icelandic Business Forum in China in cooperation with the Embassy of Iceland in Beijing participated in the Fair alongside eight Icelandic companies.
In Beijing the Minister of Finance had meetings with government representatives as well as representatives from the China Development Bank and ChemChina, which is the mother company of China Blue Star, which recently bought Elkem, the holding group of the Icelandic Ferro-Silicon plant in Grundartangi.
