Art exhibition with Icelandic contributions opens in Quanzhou
An international exhibition with works 48 artists from 14 countries opened in the cultural city of Quanzhou in South China this weekend. The exhibition is part of an international cultural week in the city and is organized by the Chinese European Art Center in Xiamen. Mrs. Ineke Gudmundsson is the director of the Center.
The works of six Icelandic artists are on display at the Exhibition. They are: Erró, Helena Hans, Kristjan Gudmundsson, Sigurdur Gudmundsson, Ragna Róberts and the Icelandic Love Corporation.
The Ambassador of Iceland to China, Kristin A. Árnadóttir, gave an address at the opening where she thanked Ineke Gudmundsson and Sigurdur Gudmundsson. The couple have for long been promoters culture in Fujian Province, particularly the city of Xiamen. Their pioneering work has attracted many Icelandic artists who have come to stay in China and develop their artistic expression. Close to 2000 people were present at the opening, including city officials.
The Gudmundssons opened the Chinese European Art Center (CEAC) in 1999. The Center organises ambitious cultural events inthe area at regular intervals. The Center also has a residence programs with 4 studios for visiting artists. The Icelandic artist, Helena Hans, is now in residence there along with other European artists.
