The best selling writer of crime and horror novels, Yrsa Sigurðardóttir, has been introducing her latest book in English translation, The Undesired (Kuldi in Icelandic) in Canada. She has taken part in the Wordfest in Calgary 16 - 19 October and will take part in the Writers´ Fest in Vancouver 20 - 24 October as well as the Writers´ Festival in Toronto 25 - 30 October.

Yrsa Sigurðardóttir arrived in Winnipeg in the evening of 14 October and the day after at noon she introduced her book at the famous Tergesen Store in Gimli in the heart of New Iceland in Manitoba. It was evident that Yrsa has a great number of readers in New Iceland. After her interesting and fun talk about her book, her writing career and civil engineering career among many topics, a lively question and answer period followed. She signed many books and great discussions followed over coffee and cakes from Lorna Tergesen who was pleased with Yrsa´s second visit to her store. Yrsa had in 2008 taken part in a Canadian visit organized by the INL NA International Visits Program. The picture to the left partially shows the old time charm of the famous Tergesen store. The Gimli part of Yrsa´s Canada journey was co-presented by the Tergesen Store and the Consulate General of Iceland in Winnipeg.

At 7 P.M. that same day (15 Oct.) about 130 people had gathered at the great bookstore McNally Robinson Booksellers in Winnipeg. The picture to the right shows a part of that crowd. John Toewes from the Booksellers introduced Yrsa, HWH said a few words and Yrsa Sigurðardóttir repeated her wonderful performance from Gimli with a lot of charm and humour. There were many questions and answers. She then signed a great number of books and people stayed to discuss her many works that are now available in English. The McNally Robinson Booksellers, the Consulate General of Iceland in Winnipeg and the Icelandic Community Newspaper - Lögberg Heimskringla, co-presented Yrsa´s Winnipeg appearance.

Ms. Donna Nopper of the Hachette Book Group Canada organized most of Yrsa´s Canada visit and travels with her.
