The Icelandic Foreign Minister Visits Brussels

The Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, visited Brussels on this week and met with high officials in NATO and the EU.

On Monday the Minister visited the NATO Headquarters and met with Secretary General of NATO, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. The Minister then had a meeting with Olli Rehn, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement where they discussed the current enlargement process as well as EU´s future enlargement policy.

The Minister also met with the High Representative for the EU´s Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana and discussed i.a. the Middle East Pieace Process.

On Tuesday the Minister had meeting with Louis Michel, Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid on new emphases of the EU in that field. The Minister then met with Joe Borg, Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, and discussed i.a. developments of the EU´s fisheries policy and the Icelandic management system as well as the Maritime Policy. The Minister had a meeting with Benito Ferrero Waldner, Commissioner for External Relations and the European Neighbourhood Policy and had talks on various issues relating to the EEA Agreement and the situation in the Middle East.
