Minister of Health and Social affairs has meetingings with EFTA, ESA and the Embassy of Iceland in Brussels
Ms. Siv Fridleifsdottir, the Icelandic Minister of Health and Social Affairs met with officials from the EFTA secretariat, the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) and the Embassy of Iceland in Brussels on the 12 and 13 February 2007 to discuss various issues in relation to the EEA Agreement in the field of health and social affairs.
The minister discussed i.a. the work of the new Pharmaceutical Forum of the EU. The objective of the forum is to get together governments of the EU countries, representatives from the pharmaceutical industry and patient’s interest groups to discuss ways to strengthen the EU´s pharmaceutical market in international competition and at the same time safeguard patient’s interests as regards supply and prices of pharmaceuticals. Representatives from the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs are obsdervers in the forum's working groups without the right to vote as well as representatives from the other EFTA States.
The Minister also met with Ambassador Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson, to go over issues that are high on the agenda in the EEA cooperation. They discussed among other things the enlargement of the EEA to Rumenia and Bulgaria. The Minister then had a meeting with Mr. Kristján Andri Stefánsson, Collegemember of ESA.
