No equality without equal pay - Seminar on equal pay standard

Equal pay management system - an Icelandic model to be presented by Minister of Social Affairs and Equality, on Thursday 9th March 2017, in Brussels.

A half-day seminar will be held at the EFTA Secretariat, rue Joseph II, 12-16, Brussels. Registration and coffee from 9.00 am.

The Government of Iceland believes that equality in the broadest sense is an integral part of a just and fair society. Equality in the labour market plays a major role and there the equal management pay system is a top priority.

Event begins at 9.30 with an intervention from Mr. Thorsteinn Víglundsson, Minister of Social Affairs and Equality followed by an intervention by Ms. Tiina Astola, Director-General for Justice and Consumers, European Commission.

Representatives from the private and public sector in Iceland will present why they have or are in the process of being certified. A panel discussion includes representatives from Business Europe, ETUC and CEEP.  

The Minister of Social Affairs and Equality of Iceland Mr. Thorsteinn Víglundsson, has been personally involved in his previous position, as Managing Director of SA-Business Iceland, in the implementation of the standard.

The equal pay management standard is a result of eight years of joint work led by the social partners and the Ministries of Welfare and Finance in Iceland and supervised by Icelandic Standards.

A light lunch will be served afterwards for participants.
