Changes in the Law on Icelandic Citizenship

On 7th June 2012, the Icelandic parliament approved changes in law nr. 100/1952 on Icelandic citizenship. These changes, which mainly concern former Icelandic citizens living abroad, allow for the possible restoration of Icelandic citizenship.
Fulfilling certain conditions, former Icelandic citizens now have the possibility apply for their Icelandic citizenship to be restored. However, this is a temporary provision and applications have to be submitted before 1 July 2016 to the Directorate of Immigration, Skógarhlíð 6, 105 Reykjavík.
