Passports & Visas
Schengen Summary

As of 25 March 2001, Iceland is an asssociate member of the Schengen agreement which exempts travelers from personal border controls between 13 European Union (EU) countries (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden) and two European Economic Area (EEA) countries (Norway and Iceland). The only EU-members which are not party to Schengen are Great Britain and Ireland.
The agreeement allows for diplomatic missions of the Schengen countries to issue visas for one another, on the basis of representation agreements. For practical reasons, visas to Iceland are issued by diplomatic missions from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Germany, France, Italy or the Netherlands, depending on the country where the applicant is located.
