1. Icelandic Studies
Since 1949 the Icelandic Ministry of Education, Science and Culture has annually awarded a number of scholarships to foreign students for study of the Icelandic language, Icelandic history and literature at the University of Iceland, Reykjavík. The Ministry decides every year in which countries these scholarships are made available, and requests the Ministry of Education in each of the recipient countries to select a candidate for the award. The Sigurður Nordal Institute invites applications for the Snorri Sturluson Icelandic Fellowships. The Snorri Sturluson Fellowships are granted to writers, translators and scholars from outside Iceland, to enable them to stay in Iceland for a period of at least three months, in order to improve their knowledge of the Icelandic language, culture and society. The Fund for the Promotion of Icelandic Literature was established to support translations of modern Icelandic literature into any foreign language.It is a small fund financed by the Icelandic Government through annual grants from the Althingi (Parliament).
