Kristjan Eyjolfsson debuts collection at Goldsmiths' Fair

Icelandic goldsmith Kristjan Eyjolfsson, who designed a Jubilee brooch for HM the Queen to mark her Diamond Jubilee this spring, is debuting his new collection "Víkingur" at the Goldsmith's Fair until Sunday 30 September.

Icelandic swimmer wins gold at the Paralympic Games

Twenty year old Icelandic swimmer Jón Margeir Sverrisson won a gold medal tonight and set a new world record of 1:59:62 in men's 200m freestyle. He is the first Paralympian to break the two minutes in winning the gold in the 200m freestyle. The Embassy of Iceland congratulates Jón Margeir on his great achievement!

Artist Ólafur Elíasson and the Little Sun project

Icelandic-Danish artist Ólafur Elíasson has brought a solar-powered project to Tate Modern called Little Sun with related “Tate Blackout” events. Visitors are invited to look at works of art using only light from Little Sun lamps, which Ólafur developed with Frederik Ottesen for people with little access to reliable energy or who make up around 1.6 billion of the world’s population.

The Olympics - Latest News

A warm Welcoming ceremony was held in the Olympic village on 26 July for the Icelandic athletes. The ceremony was attended by President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, First Lady Dorrit Moussaieff, Ambassador Benedikt Jónsson and his wife. President Grimsson as well as Katrín Jakobsdóttir Minister of Education, Science and Culture also attended the Opening Ceremony on 27 July where Ms. Ásdís Hjálmsdóttir was flag bearer for the Icelandic team.
