Information on the London Olympics
Now with less than a month to go until the opening ceremony, preparations are going smoothly. President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and Minister of Education Katrín Jakobsdóttir will attend the opening ceremony.
The Embassy of Iceland in London is supporting the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland (ISI) concerning various preparations for the Olympics. On 19 June, Ambassador of Iceland to the UK, H.E. Mr Benedikt Jonsson, visited ISI in connection with the coming Olympic Games in London. Ambassador Jonsson is no stranger to the world of sports, as he was i.a. chairman of the Icelandic KR basketball. The Embassy counsellor, Mr Axel Nikulasson, also serves as the Icelandic Olympic Attaché and was an international basketball player and coach.
The Embassy has set up a website in Icelandic with practical information for those travelling to London to attend the games. The site can be accessed here.
