Vesturport's Woyzeck at the Barbican 5th-15th July 2006

This daring and imaginative adaptation of Büchner’s 1837 masterpiece returns by popular demand. Woyzeck has all the hallmarks of a Vesturport production, dazzling aerial displays, a striking industrial setting and an unforgettable ending that takes place in a giant aquarium. A pounding rock soundtrack by Nick Cave and fellow Bad Seeds Warren Ellis underpins the action.

As Iceland’s most inventive young theatre company, Vesturport strive to create theatre that is as enjoyable to perform as it is to watch, using hair-raising, high spectacle aerobatics to electrifying effect.

‘Grotesque, brash and sometimes beautiful. Cave’s blood-soaked lyricism and noisy trash-can blues lend a thrilling extra dimension.’

The Times

‘Thrillingly imaginative theatre.’
