South Icelandic Chamber Choir and Three Shakespeare Sonnets by Sir John Tavener

The South Icelandic Chamber Choir will premiere new compositions by British composer Sir John Tavener in Southwark Cathedral on 15th November 2013.

The South Icelandic Chamber Choir's (SICC) and Sir John Tavener's unique collaboration dates back to 2004 when the choir premiered the specially commissioned Schuon Hymnem. In 2010, the choir premiered Iepo Oneipo (Sacred dream) by Tavener in Iceland, with the recorded album being chosen CD of the month by Gramophone Magazine in October 2010 and  nomianted as the best contemporary and classical album at the Iceland music awards 2011.

This exclusive performance on 15th November includes the premiere of new compositions Three Shakespeare Sonnets by Sir John Tavener, performed by SICC under the direction of choirmaster Hilmar Örn Agnarsson. Also included in the programme is a new commission by British composer Jack White, compositions written for the choir by Kjartan Sveinsson (Sigur Rós) and a selection of works by Tavener's Iepo Oneipo.

The event is supported by Arts Council England, Sound and Music and the Icelandic Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
