Icelandic Student in London Fashion Week final
A fashion student from Iceland has beaten hopefuls from 34 universities/colleges nationwide to win a coveted place in the 2010 F.A.D. Competition final, set to take place at London Fashion Week on Monday 22nd February.
Selected from over 100 entries Vera Thordardottir is currently studying fashion at the Instituto Marangoni in London. She is one of fourteen finalists who will see their designs showcased at Vauxhall Fashion Scout this month, as part of the off-schedule catwalk event. The students will present a collection inspired by this year’s emotive brief – ‘Traces’.
The brief has led many finalists to look to their own memories for inspiration. For her entry Vera Thordardottir remembers growing up in her native Iceland surrounded by snow.
"My family and I experienced the full impact of snow in the winter of 1995 when my grandparent’s home, the place where my mother and her 8 siblings grew up, was wiped out by an avalanche. Overnight all we had left were memories, and all of a sudden the pictures we had and random objects we dug up from the snow became invaluable to clinging to the memories of the lost home and recalling them later on." - Vera Thordardottir
