Exhibition of Shanko Rugs at the Embassy
An exhibition of hand-tufted rugs by Icelandic artist Sigrún Lára Shanko recently opened at the Embassy.
Sigrún Lára Shanko is an Icelandic textile artist who specialises in silk but has turned her attention to rugs. She learned the original hand-tufting technique from her mother as a teenager and seeks her inspiration from Iceland's nature, history and mythology.
Each rug is hand-tufted and made from pure and sustainable Icelandic wool. The rugs on display at the Embassy are based on Langjökull glacier and the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
Until January 2014
