An Icelandic evening at Daunt Books Chelsea
Daunt Books Chelsea will hold an Icelandic evening on Wednesday 4 September at 7pm, where two authors will discuss their new novels.
Hannah Kent (@ Nicholas Purcell)
Hannah Kent will discuss her debut historical novel, Burial Rites, which is based on the true story of Agnes Magnúsdóttir, who was the last woman in Iceland to be executed. Hannah first learnt about Agnes when she left her native Australia to spend one year as an exchange student in Sauðárkrókur in the north of Iceland, which later inspired her to write this novel as a creative part of her PhD. Read further about Burial Rites here.
Hannah will also discuss her book at Waterstone’s Covent Garden on Tuesday 3 September at 6pm. Book tickets here. (£4)
British author Sarah Moss will discuss her novel Names for the Sea, in which she tells the story of fulfilling her childhood dream of moving to Iceland. Determined not to live in Kent for the rest of their lives, Sarah and her family moved to Iceland at the start of a deep financial crisis, and in her book, Sarah gives an honest and interesting account of her experience.
