This annual Conference is the principal decision-making body of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Today, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Mrs. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladótir, delivered her first foreign policy speech to Althingi, the Parliament of Iceland. In her address, Mrs. Gísladóttir discussed Iceland´s foreign policy challenges with a special focus on Iceland´s role in a globalized world.

The Eleventh Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) concluded in The Hague on 8 December 2006. The Conference is the principal decision-making organ of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

On 28 - 29 September, NATO Defence Ministers meet in Portoroz Slovenia

The Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Valgerður Sverrisdóttir, has decided to contribute additional 200.000 USD to emergency and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian territories. The amount is equally divided between UN's UNICEF and World Food Program (WFP).

The Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Valgerður Sverrisdóttir, has decided to contribute 20 million ISK equivalent to 0,3 million USD to humanitarian and emergency assistance in the Darfur region in Sudan.

The Icelandic Government has decided to increase its presence in the Sri Lanka Truce Monitoring Mission (SLMM). Up to 10 Icelanders will be members of the SLMM.

Mrs. Valgerður Sverrisdóttir, the Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, decided 15 August 2006 to contribute 0,2 million USD to emergency and humanitarian assistance to the victims of the conflict in Lebanon. The amount is equally divided between UN´s WFP and the International Red Cross (ICRC).
