Mireya Samper ~ Exhibition in Strasbourg
by MIREYA SAMPER
From 18 June to 31 July 2017
Wed / Fri - 11 am to 6 pm - Sat / Sun - 2 pm to 6 pm at 23, rue Boecklin, Strasbourg
Opening on June 17 at 6:30 pm
In the work of Mireya Samper, born in Iceland, the delicacy of shapes harmoniously blends the lightness of the materials, reflecting her fascination with nature, and in particular, water. Mireya Samper seems to have embarked on an ambitious project: to transcribe this fluid element in raw and solid materials.
The artist uses many stages and techniques: painting on washi paper, sculpture on metal or rock engraving ... thus she multiplies the means to carve in eternity this ephemeral form which is dear to her, a drop in suspense.
Her creations resonate with the places of which they were produced, such as the oxymoronic infinite sign of paper installed in a Lithuanian forest, or sculptures of bamboo and hemp leaves painted in Abiko, Japan. She has created many installations around the world, from Japan to France, including India, Lithuania, Mexico and Sweden.
A true call to introspection and harmony with the environments, the work of Mireya Samper is unique in the way she manipulates light. She evokes both a deep love for nature and an unequivocal faith in the idea that aesthetics is a precious ally for peace of soul.
