This 18th edition of the Reykjavik Jazz Festival will be held in the Icelandic capital between August 29th and September 1st, 2007.
Artists scheduled to appear include:
Cutting edge pianist/composer Uri Caine leads his trio (Drew Gress on bass and Ben Perowsky on drums) in a diverse performance based on the standards of jazz as well as original compositions. One of the most controversial jazz musician on the scene today, this opening show is not to be missed!

Bergonzi is at the core of the italian tenor tradition. No, not the singing kind but he is without doubt the tenorsaxophonist’s saxophonist. Jerry Bergonzi is world renowned for being extremely well grounded in the whole of the jazz tradition. With a trio led by pianist Eythór Gunnarsson (of Mezzoforte fame) this is guaranteed to be an evening well spent. Also Eythór’s trio will present songs from the well-known Icelandic standards repertoire – the music of Jón Múli Árnason – with singer Ellen Kristjánsdóttir and others.

Eivör Pálsdóttir and The Reykjavík Big Band
Faroese singing star Eivör Pálsdóttir is guaranteed to make a lasting impression on whoever gets within hearing distance. Her own haunting intensely melodic songs are arranged for big band and here performed by The Reykjavik Big Band.

Songs of - and off - shores
Icelandic piano prodigy Agnar Már Magnússon leads a septet in new music deeply rooted in the icelandic tradition. The second half features Icelandic jazz diva Kritjana Stefánsdóttir for a duet from their extensive repertoire, including everything from up-beat swing and low-down dirty blues.

Blue songs / blue shadows
Altosaxophonist/composer Sigurdur Flosason is one of Iceland’s most prominent jazz artists. Here he hosts an evening of his own compositions as presented on his new album Bláir Skuggar (Blue Shadows). His band is a regular League of Gentlemen - seasoned veterans of the Icelandic jazz scene. Also Sigurdur will present never before heard songs performed by Egill Ólafsson and Ragnheidur Gröndal, with lyrics from Icelandic poet Adalsteinn Ásberg Sigurdsson.

Guitarists of the North unite!
No it’s not a political demonstration, but some of Iceland’s foremost guitarists of the jazz and blues scene who will “lead together their horses “ (Icelandic expressions do not translate easily). Björn Thoroddsen is the man! With special guest, the American guitar legend Larry Coryell.

Pianoplayer Egill Benedikt Hreinsson will lead his quartet in standards and originals at restaurant Jómfrúin (The Virgin). Egill is also an electrical engineer so this is pretty much guaranteed to be an electrifying experience.

Sam’s Place in Orbit. Houston: There is no problem!
Funkmaster Uncle Sam (of icelandic band Jaguar ) leads an evening of funky good times, music and movement. Special guest include Sam’s Funk Big Band and Finlands own Jimi Tenor. Also on the bill are New York afrobeat masters ANTIBALAS.
It doesn't get any better than this!
