Iceland ranked the most peaceful country

The survey is compiled by the Economist Intelligent Unit from 24 indicators of external and internal measures of peace.

The countries were evaluated on factors such as relations with neighbouring countries, respect for human rights and level of conflict.

Ingibjorg Solrun Gisladottir, Iceland's foreign minister told reporters "We are very pleased that the index confirms the core values of a small democratic society...We can feel that other states also find this important and it is in fact a driving force in our first-time candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council".

The ranking in whole can be found online at the Vision of Humanity webpage.
