Continued Free Trade negotiations
The eigth meeting of the Icelandic-Chinese joint committee of economic cooperation and trade was held at the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs on 18 June. At the meeting it was decided to aim for two formal FTA negotiation rounds this year. The representatives of Iceland and China discussed trade and economic situation of the respective countries as well as cooperation in specific areas, i.e. geothermal, investment and tourism, and companies introduced their operations.
The Chinese delegation consisted of 20 representatives from both the public and the private sector, as a follow up of the meetings of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Icelandic Premier Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir during the official visit of the former to Iceland in April, and the meeting of Foreign Minister Össur Skarphéðinsson and Chen Deming China´s Minister of Foreign Trade on the same occasion.
