Chamber Trio on tour in China
Icelandic Flute Duet Gudrun Birgisdottir and Martial Nardeau along with pianist Selma Gudmundsdottir are currently on a two week concert tour in China. The first concert was held this Monday, 14 October, in Shanghai. After another concert in Shanghai the trio will head to Huzhou, Hefei, Chongqing, Changsha before the trip ends in Beijing with a series of concerts in the Chinese capital. The last concert is to be held at Beijing Foreign Studies University in cooperation with the Embassy.
Recently, 12 students started studying towards a B.A. degree in Icelandic Language and Culture at the University under he guidance of an Icelandic teacher, Eirikur Sturla Olafsson. Prior to Eirikur‘s arrival there is already another Chinese national teaching Icelandic language, Mrs. Soley Hekla Wang Shuhui. The new students are the second group of students to major in Icelandic at BFSU. Sixteen students graduated with degrees in the same subject in 2012.
The concert on October 28 will mark a special occasion when the Travel Journal of Icelandic poet Johannes ur Kotlum, from the first visit of an Icelandic Cultural Delegation to China in 1952, will be published.
