Ambassador Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson presents his credentials to President Nguyen Minh Triet of Vietnam
On Friday 2 February Ambassador Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson presented his credentials to President Nguyen Minh Triet of Vietnam, as the Ambassador of Iceland to Vietnam, based in Beijing. They discussed the increasing opportunities for trade between the two countries in light of Vietnam’s membership to the World Trade Organization and ways to develop relations in other areas.
Iceland’s bid for a seat on the United Nations’ Security Council was also discussed as well as participation by Vietnamese citizens in the Iceland based UN University Fisheries Program. Ambassador Gunnarsson also met with Vice-Minister of Foreign Affaris Vu Dung, Vice-Minister of Trade Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and H.E. Dr. Ta Quang Ngoc, Minister of Fisheries. Preparations are under way for the opening of honorary consulates in Hanoi and Ho Chi Mingh City.
