Ambassador Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson presents credentials in Australia
On Thursday 22 February Ambassador Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson presented his credentials to Governor-General Philip Michael Jeffery as Ambassador of Iceland to Australia, resident in Beijing. At the Department of Foreign Affairs and rade in Canberra Ambassador Gunnarsson discussed the ongoing negotiations between Australia and China on a Free Trade Agreement as Iceland is now embarking on such negotiations with China. Iceland's bid for a seat on the United Nations' Security Council for the period 2009-2010 was discussed and Australian support for that bid was confirmed. Cooperation under the auspices of the Australia Group in the struggle against chemical and biological weapons was specifically adressed.
Ambassador Gunnarsson also visited Parliament House and met with the Honorary consuls in Canberra and Sidney as well as the Icelandic community.
