Opening of the exhibition Fabulous Iceland – Portraits of contemporary Icelandic authors

On the first of February at the European Parliament in Brussels, the opening of the exhibition Fabulous Iceland – Portraits  of contemporary Icelandic authors took place. Photographs by Kristinn Ingvarsson are juxtaposed with text from journalist Pétur Blöndal which reflects the importance of Iceland’s literary history on the modern day authors.

H.E. Mr. Thorir Ibsen, ambassador to the EU and the European Parliament’s Committee for Foreign Affairs Dan Preda opened the exhibition.

Iceland has been in the spotlight as nation of literature in the last few months.  Iceland was the focus of the Frankfurt Book Fair under the slogan Fabulous Iceland and last August Reykjavik was named UNESCO’s City of Literature

The exhibition is a part of the embassy’s promotional work which aims to engage people in Icelandic culture present in Belgium, Holland and Luxemburg.  The coming months the exhibition will be displayed in other venues of the European Union.
