Iceland’s Literary Heritage at EFTA

On 15th May at EFTA’s Brussels office, Mr. Össur Skarphéðinsson, Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Mrs. Bergdís Ellertsdóttir, EFTA’s Deputy Secretary-General jointly opened the exhibition Fabulous Iceland – Portraits of contemporary Icelandic authors.

The exhibition, which is designed by Matthias Wegner K, consists of photographs by Kristinn Ingvarsson that are juxtaposed with text from journalist Pétur Blöndal, reflecting on the importance of Iceland’s literary history on the modern day authors.

Ms. Björk Óskarsdóttir violinist performed with a repertoire included works by Sigfús Halldórsson and Atli Heimir Sveinsson along with the screening of a new documentary by Helga Brekkan called Iceland’s Artist and Sagas.

The exhibition is a part of the embassy’s promotional work which aims to engage people in Icelandic culture present in Belgium, Holland and Luxemburg.  The last few months the exhibition has been on display in various buildings of the European Parliament and the EU in Brussels.
