Ambassador Atlason presents letters of credence to President Fischer of Austria
On 17 September Ambassador Auðunn Atlason presented his letters of credence to President Heinz Fischer as the Ambassador of Iceland to Austria. Following the presentation ceremony the Ambassador and the President discussed bilateral relations of the two countries, European and International affairs. During their talk they underscored the friendly relations between Iceland and Austria as old EFTA allies and current EEA partners. Business and in particular cultural ties between the two countries have a strong foundation as many Icelandic artists have received their education in Austria. In international affairs both states' policies harmonise as they place great emphasis on respect for human rights and the peaceful settlement of international disputes. Joining Ambassador Atlason and President Fischer at their meeting were Dr. Michael Linhart, incoming Undersecretary of State, and Ingibjörg Davíðsdóttir, Minister Counsellor.
